Passport photoPassport photoChris Steady Eddie and Batman, the guinea pigs, are still going strong and greet me when I go out to feed them – the children have let me look after them – isn’t that kind! It seems a long time ago now, but, as we’ve already said, in the Spring Peter and I had an overseas adventure visiting Emily in Cambodia (see pictures below). We had a fantastic time and Peter coped really well with the long flights, the jet lag, the heat, mosquitoes – in fact probably much better then I did.

I’m still on the leadership team of the Marlow congregation of our church www.riverchurch.org.uk, and as well as being involved in general planning and decision-making I’m particularly responsible for administration (i.e. I do most of it) and for the music. I’ve organised and taken part in two vocal training days which were led by Sue Rinaldi, when a group of us had a great time learning to sing better. Our church has a growing relationship with Bethel church in Redding, California (led by Bill Johnson) and in October I went with a group of about 40 others from River to a conference there. It was my first experience of the USA so it was good to fit in an overnight in San Francisco too – at least now I’ve seen some of those famous sights close up, even if I didn’t get much time for extensive sightseeing.

This year I stopped helping to produce the ‘Valley News’ (local newsletter) but as I’m still gardener, hairdresser to Peter and Andrew, maker of batman capes and pirate outfits, chief cook and bottle-washer, and retain most of the domestic purchasing duties, life continues to be more than full enough!

Tim My job has been particularly ‘interesting’ this year. In February the team I was managing was disbanded, not ’cos we weren’t doing a good job but because of a new Director and a consequent change of strategy. There wasn’t another immediately obvious role to move into, so for the next five months I was in limbo-land – sort of unemployed, but kept busy on projects (and still being paid). I applied for several jobs inside BT over that period and at last in August ended up in a similar role to that which I’d been doing before, in the same part of BT! It was a hugely frustrating time, as I’m sure you can appreciate. The new job has proved very challenging – I’ve been stretched by my new boss, which is good, and since he is the up-and-coming star it’s a excellent place to be, but I’m still not quite sure whether it will be something I want to do long term. Time will tell. For the last four months I’ve been running a sales campaign which requires me to put together a daily report for Bill Murphy, the MD of BT Business (which he always reads closely and usually comments on within 10 minutes of it being sent) so there’s never any room for relaxing! The good news is that I won a public thank you from him for my work.
