SmilerThunderbirds are GO!Peter celebrated his 7th birthday the other week by inviting a handful of friends to see ‘The Incredibles’ at the local cinema (it was excellent – if you haven’t seen it, do - no matter how old you are!). One of his pals was ill on the day, so Andrew came as well: we hadn’t been convinced that he’d be able to sit through a two hour film but he loved it too. As ever, Peter is enjoying school, even doing times tables, and he’s now reading pretty well, and discovering the pleasure of books with real stories (although prefers it if we help out by reading alternating pages). All that homework learning how to spell words has a point after all. He’s into Power Rangers and Bionicles at the moment – no change from last year – but no signs of wanting to join his pals kicking a pig’s bladder round a muddy field on cold and wet Saturday mornings (phew).

DashAndrew (4½) started school in September (joining Peter at Burford); he’ll be doing five mornings a week until he goes full-time in the summer term. It’s great to be able to say that he settled down better than we had expected. He’s excited about starting to read and write simple words, and still loves counting things at the slightest of invitations. His eagerness for playing on the computer hasn’t gone away (eg see here and here), but in his quieter moments enjoys playing with soft toys too. His latest favourites are a 12 foot green snake bought at the school Christmas bazaar, and Bullseye, the horse from Toy Story 2 (we went to see Toy Story 2 on Ice at the National Indoor Arena in Brummyland in November - which went down well!).
