Tim’s work

You may remember that I changed jobs in October 1999 to join a Product Marketing team (still in BT) to do a portfolio strategy role. It's been good - plenty of activity and variety. More importantly it turned out (as predicted) to have been a good move in terms of avoiding the total chaos that followed the launch in January of Concert, the BT and AT&T joint venture to which I would otherwise have been transferred. I wouldn't have been offered the kind of job that I would have wanted anyway, and colleagues who stayed really have had to put up with a lot. Instead, my main activity has been in helping to launch a new kind of communications system into our portfolio, and I’ve gained a load of valuable knowledge and experience on the way (on the off chance you're remotely interested – it’s Cisco's AVVID platform).

I've been in healthy demand from sales teams to present it to their customers, and have had three foreign trips - not the US in February nor Germany in March as I had been expecting, but Eire and Sweden in June, and Spain in November instead. On the back of this job I've got a good chance of a more senior role in the same unit - which would be a great Christmas present!.
